The Tea Party Café @ Bukit Timah

The Tea Party Cafe

Cafes in Singapore can be considered diverse, with most of them paying close attention to their designs and decorations in an attempt to draw the crowds. But there will be a select few who opt to focus on the output, by ensuring that the food is up to standard, before serving them to the discerning public. We’d thought that this approach might be the norm, but we’ve come to learn that this is not always the case with a handful that boasts plenty of style, without getting the substance spot on.

The Tea Party Café aims to get the most important factor right. Yes, they serve delicious food consistently. No fancy decorations for Instagrammers – just good old proper food for hungry folks. This allows them to keep prices to a minimum too – both our dishes for lunch cost us less than SGD$10.00, which is a steal taking into account that it is located within the wealthy radius of Bukit Timah!

Our first dish was fish and chips, a meal that we reckon is simple, yet extremely difficult to master. The batter on this delivers a crispy bite without a hint of dryness, while the sauce helps to supply it with a soury touch. We prefer to sample the fish by itself for the full flavour though, and reserve the sauce for the thick-cut fries. This meal might look small, but the fish is more than meaty enough to cure your hunger pangs.

Next up will be the beef bolognese spaghetti. You might be able to notice from the picture that they are very generous with the sauce, unlike other restaurants where you’ll have to save the best for the last! This mix is juicy, slightly sour and salty – and goes well with the spaghetti. It’s far from oily although the gravy might suggest otherwise, and yes, this is fit for consumption for one very hungry soul!

Both meals come served with ice lemon tea and soup of the day, which makes them even more bang for buck! Fravel would advice you to head down on weekdays for a quick lunch bite, as they can be pretty packed on weekends. They have more tables on the 2nd floor too, so don’t be discouraged if the first floor is jam packed with patrons. A worthy restaurant that can satisfy your cravings for Western food!
