I remember a period when my right eye was infected by “eyeritis”, which causes blurry vision and redness. I was literally half blind for a week, and had to make the trip to Camden Medical Centre for frequent checkups. Given the condition of my vision, I had absolutely no mood to scan around the compound. We went back for another reason this time, to consume what is arguably the most talked about wagyu in town.
Fat Cow sounds just about right for meat lovers, and there will be no lack of premium meat to fulfill your cravings. Still, don’t be fooled by its name – it serves fresh seafood as well.
Upon entering Fat Cow, you’ll not even remember that this is located right in the heart of a medical centre. The dimly-lit ambient lighting, traditional Japanese architecture and “Nippon-like” displays serve to enhance the overall experience.
We ordered the Chirashi Zushi (SGD$48), and our eyes were immediately drawn to the massive prawn, tamago and salmon sashimi. This is the Rojak of the Japanese world, but this consists of much more premium ingredients. The salmon melts in your mouth, and the prawn is meaty and chewy with a fresh flavour that bursts in your mouth.
The superstar dish comes in the form of a humble bowl. The Fat Cow Donburi makes sense only if you have the cash to splash, and this will be a good way to satiate your inner devil… SGD$39 for a bowl is not cheap by any means, but you’ll get to enjoy slices of wagyu that melts in your mouth. Words can’t describe how this tastes, but this bowl delivers more than just enjoyment for your taste buds. It’s a visual treat too, with the presentation laid out in near-OCD fashion. And it smells absolutely delicious.
Even if you have the craving for premium Jap food, be sure to making a booking because they do not entertain walk-in customers. Fat Cow, we reckon, will feed your need for premium meat and seafood. If you prefer to splash the cash on donburis and chirashis rather than hotel buffets, this could in turn be a more bang for buck alternative!
