Ice cream is one of the best desserts, hands down. So if you’re an ice cream fiend and an eastie, We’ve got you covered. Forget the Haagen Daaz and Coffee Clubs of the world. Why look further when all the goodies are in your very own backyard! Sample some homegrown goodness in the best local ice cream parlours in the east!
Here are some of the best places for ice cream in the east of Singapore!
Little Ice Cream Kafe (L.I.C.K.)
Located along Tanjong Katong Road, L.I.C.K. is a local joint popular with residents from the nearby estate, students, couples, and just about anybody! Decorated with mismatched furniture and staffed by sweet young ladies, L.I.C.K.’s ice cream is flavourful with a full-bodied taste to it. Flavours are rotated on a regular basis, and they have special offers every day. Our favourite night to visit is Wednesday: you get two scoops for the price of one!
L.I.C.K. is at 258 Tanjong Katong Road.
Ice Cream Gallery
Just down the road from L.I.C.K. is the Ice Cream Gallery. If L.I.C.K. was for the younger crowd, then Ice Cream Gallery is definitely for adults. The type of market it aims for is clear from the decor and ice cream flavours – there’s nothing fancy here. If you want your caramel and sea salt ice cream, you get it as it is! Ice cream at Ice Cream Gallery tastes as classy as its shop does. With a quieter ambiance, Ice Cream Gallery is also great for an intimate chat. They do coffee and cakes, so you can stretch your night out.
Ice Cream Gallery is at 242C Tanjong Katong Road.
Noisy, packed, and staffed by teenagers, Udders is the de facto hangout for youngsters living in the east when they crave ice cream. The high ceiling of the outlet means it gets too noisy at times, and it’s definitely not the place to even try and have a conversation. Udders serves fresh waffles and has a wide variety of flavours, but some of them lack punch. The best thing about Udders is how the joint remains open past midnight on weekends.
Udders is at 87 Upper East Coast Rd.
The minimalist, modern decor of BLIC makes it stick out like a sore thumb in the middle of good old Simpang Bedok. Nonetheless BLIC is a welcome addition to this famous supper spot. Open till daily till late, BLIC serves the usual flavours you’d expect from a local joint, but with generous portions of damn good ice cream. BLIC has an open shopfront so don’t expect it to be the coolest of hangouts.
BLIC is at 312 Bedok Road.
